Scrotal Cyst Removal
Scrotal Cyst Removal in Glasgow
Are you troubled by skin cysts on your scrotum? These cysts are typically called sebaceous or epidermoid cysts. They grow just under the skin and contain a thick yellowish material. They occur on parts of the body where there is hair, such as the scalp, face, neck, back and scrotum. They are usually painless but can be uncomfortable if they become swollen or infected. Sometimes one may appear on its own or they can also present as multiple cysts.

I had a cyst which had been causing me issues for years. After chasing my doctor and the NHS to get seen to, I eventually gave up. I contacted Altruderm and in the span of 4 weeks I went from consultation, to surgery to 100% healed up and cyst free.
How We Remove Scrotal Skin Cysts
Sebaceous cysts of the scrotum are removed by surgical excision. The area is treated with local anaesthetic to numb the skin then a small incision is made across the cyst. The cyst is retrieved in its sac and added to the histopathology pot. The area is closed with fine sutures.
The specimen is then sent to the histology lab for definitive diagnosis. This information can be shared with your NHS GP with your consent.
You will leave the clinic with discreet padding which is placed in your underwear and you will be given aftercare instructions, including a direct out of hours number for Dr. McDaid.
You can be guaranteed continuity of care and will be treated by Dr. McDaid throughout your treatment journey, from initial consultation to your follow-up care in the clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is a Scrotal Skin Cyst?
A skin cyst that appears on the scrotum can typically be described as an epidermoid cyst or sebaceous cyst and are the same as cysts that grow on your scalp or other parts of your body, usually where there is hair. These cysts are filled with whitish/yellowish, cheesy material and they can range in size. They can present on their own or as multiple cysts on the scrotum. They are usually painless but can cause discomfort if they become irritated or infected.
Can I Squeeze Out a Sebaceous Cyst on My Own?
Never try to squeeze out a cyst at home as this can lead to infection and complications. You should seek medical advice when dealing with any cysts or lumps on the scrotum.
Will I Have a Scar?
Scarring can be a consequence of any type of surgical procedure and depends on a number of factors, such as the size of the area being treated as well as your body’s own ability to repair itself. However, a number of factors can work towards minimising any scarring and you will be given advice on techniques following your procedure.
What Are the Aftercare Instructions for Removal of Sebaceous Cysts on the Scrotum?
You will be advised to keep the area dry for two days. Thereafter, you are encouraged to wash your wound. We may issue you with sterile water. You should gently pat wash and pat dry the area daily.
You can resume your normal activities straight away, unless your job is physically demanding. You are also advised to refrain from exercise for a few days post procedure, returning to gentle exercise when you feel able to. Avoid sex and masturbation for approximately 2 weeks to allow enough time for the area to heal. If you require pain relief following the procedure, we would advise paracetamol and to avoid anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen.
Can These Types of Cysts on the Scrotum Recur Once They Have Been Removed?
It is unlikely that the cyst will recur once it has been excised. However, it is not possible to give a guarantee.
