Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a lipoma removed on the NHS?
Why do I have lipomas?
Lipomas occur due to an overgrowth of fat cells. They can appear on anyone but are most common among middle aged men and women. In a small proportion of people lipomas are inherited. In some cases, multiple lipomas may be present due to a condition called Familial Multiple Lipomatosis.
Why is a sample of my lipoma sent to the pathology lab?
We routinely send all samples to be checked histologically to confirm the doctor’s diagnosis and to ensure your peace of mind.
