Lipoma Check & Removal at Altruderm

Lipomas are noncancerous growths that gradually develop, presenting as movable and soft fatty lumps under the skin. They are most often found on the torso, neck, arms, shoulders, and thighs and are generally painless. Despite being harmless, people with single or multiple lipomas may choose to have them removed.

These growths are typically egg-shaped, soft, and can easily be moved beneath the skin. Their visibility may increase when the muscle underneath is tensed, such as on the arm, indicating their depth within the skin layers.

A lipoma that feels painful upon touch could be an angiolipoma, characterised by the presence of small blood vessels within the fatty tissue.

Moreover, a condition called Dercum’s disease leads to multiple painful lipomas across the body, although it is notably rare.

At the Altruderm clinic, Dr. McDaid conducts precise surgical removal of lipomas, prioritising a thorough initial consultation and detailed analysis of the removed tissue by pathology experts. This ensures the highest levels of patient safety and care throughout the process.

Lipoma Removal Consultation

In your consultation, Dr. McDaid will explore your surgical goals and determine the most effective removal technique for your lipoma. Surgical excision under local anesthesia is the primary method, concluding with suturing the site. Alternatively, a minimal incision extraction might be employed for smaller lipomas, involving a tiny cut and compression to ease the lipoma out, reducing scar visibility. The choice of method hinges on Dr. McDaid’s evaluation and the lipoma’s characteristics.

A mandatory pre-surgery consultation with Dr. McDaid ensures a thorough examination and diagnosis of your lipoma. For larger or deeper lumps, an ultrasound may be recommended for precise assessment. This session is also an opportunity to discuss treatment strategies, encompassing associated risks and advantages.

Subsequently, you’ll receive a detailed treatment plan, including costs that cover both histopathology and a standard post-operative check-up with Dr. McDaid, guaranteeing comprehensive care.

Lipoma Removal Procedure

On the day of your lipoma removal at Altruderm clinic, we will start by preparing your skin to minimise infection risks and administer local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

Our goal is to remove the entire lipoma while strategically minimising any scarring. The chosen surgical technique, designed to achieve optimal results, will have been discussed with you prior to surgery. The surgical site will then be closed with stitches – either dissolvable beneath the skin or non-dissolvable on the surface. Should your stitches require removal, we will schedule a follow-up at our clinic, included in your procedure’s cost.

Post-procedure, you will receive detailed aftercare instructions and any necessary dressings for home care. A follow-up appointment will be arranged to monitor your healing, and your specimen will be sent to a histopathology lab for analysis, with results shared with you and your GP as needed.
